USC coach Will Muschamp Saturday landed a commitment from former Sumter High DL Jahkeem Green (6-5 285) who played last season at Highland Community College in Kansas. Green visited USC on Tuesday to watch spring practice and was back on Saturday for the scrimmage inside Williams-Brice Stadium when he made his pledge to the Gamecocks.
“It felt like home,” Green said. “It was a great environment, the people around me and the coaches, and they made me feel like I need to be there. They like that I’m big, strong and athletic.”
Green said he will be an interior defensive lineman with the Gamecocks. Last season he had 49 tackles with 4 tackles for loss and was named all conference.
Lance Thompson identified Green as a prospect on one of his visits to Highland last year when the Gamecocks were recruiting receiver Ronnie Jamison who committed but never signed. Green said once getting the offer from the Gamecocks he knew what he wanted to do.
“I was a Carolina fan and they were offering me out of JUCO and I saw my opportunity, and me going there, feels like I’m a home. I decided that’s the place for me.”
Green, who did not have any offers coming out of high school, said he also has an offer from Louisiana-Lafayette and is expecting more this spring.
He said he plans to graduate in December and will have three years to play two with the Gamecocks. Green gives the Gamecocks eight commitments for the 2019 class and the third on the defensive line.
