One night after calling their performance in the Round of 64 disappointing, South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley offered a different perspective.
The Gamecocks had multiple field-goal droughts and turned the basketball over plenty in a 63-52 win over North Carolina A&T in a game Staley described as “ugly basketball”.
On Saturday, Staley provided a newfound awareness of how tough it is to stay in this tournament, buoyed by the upsets occuring in both the men’s and women’s brackets.
Staley’s alma mater, Virginia, awaits the Gamecock on Sunday, two days after the Cavaliers’ men’s team became the first No. 1 seed to lose to a 16th-seeded team in the men’s basketball tournament.
