No. 6 seed Arkansas held off No. 11 seed South Carolina after blowing a 15-point lead in the second half, beating the Gamecocks 69-64 Thursday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament in St. Louis. It’s the Razorbacks’ third straight win over the Gamecocks. The Hogs won in Fayetteville earlier in the season 81-65.
South Carolina trailed by 13 points midway thru the second half. The Gamecocks went on a 16-4 run cutting the lead to one with 7:22 left, but couldn’t get over the hump.
Leading USC in scoring was Maik Kotsar and Chris Silva, each with 15 points. Kotsar hit on 7 of 11 shots while Silva made just 4 of 12 attempts, but he did make 7-8 from the line.
Arkansas held a 26-16 advantage at the free-throw line in terms of attempts hitting 23 while USC connected on only ten.
The Gamecocks record drops to 17-16 and they will now wait to see if an NIT bid is forthcoming on Sunday night.
