DB Sheridan Jones (6-1 165) of Virginia Beach, VA originally was in the 2020 class but earlier this year he moved up his process and reclassified for the 2019 recruiting season. And that escalated his recruiting attention to the point offers began to flow in, including one from Clemson.
“As soon as I announced that I am a junior, they said that I jumped ahead of a lot of guys,” said Jones who visited Clemson in January. “I knew that Clemson was a top-tier football team but meeting Coach Swinney and seeing his perspective on things, it changed my mind about a couple things. He’s really all about his players and he wanted to make sure they were good people before they were good football players.”
Clemson has had success in Hampton Roads area of Virginia in recent years and on his visit Jones got some more insight from fellow Virginian DE Jordan Williams.
“He told me Clemson was a great school and the football program is on top,” Jones said. “And how they’re not going anywhere and they’re going to keep pounding everybody and keep striving to get to the top. And make sure they get back to the national championship.”
Jones is a cornerback and also owns offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Tennessee, West Virginia, Penn State and others. He visited Tennessee earlier this month. He plans to put together a short list of favorites later in the spring or summer and take his official visits in the fall.
