In the 2017 class Clemson pulled receivers Tee Higgins and Amari Rogers from Tennessee’s backyard. For the 2018 class the Tigers went into Alabama and took WR Justyn Ross away from the Crimson Tide. For 2019 the Tigers will venture into the territory of the Miami Hurricanes in pursuit of WR Frank Ladson (6-4 170) of Miami.
Ladson is a former Florida commitment. He also holds offers from USC, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, North Carolina and others. Ladson visited Clemson in January and he was as impressed by the football team’s academic success as much as their on the field success.
“Since Dabo Swinney was head coach, 172 of 177 seniors have gotten their degrees,” Ladson said. “That stood out most about the whole visit. Academics are important to me. I want to go to a school where I can do more than just play football. I already have an idea of what I want to major in, so that really stood out to me.”
Of course, football also was part of the conversation and Ladson said Clemson receivers coach Jeff Scott made it clear there’s a spot for him in the program.
“Of course, that means a lot,” Ladson said. “They do a good job of developing guys and putting them in the league. Coach Scott talked about how Clemson can help me in the next three or four years to develop into a better young man and receiver.”
Ladson said his top group at this point consists of Clemson, Miami, Alabama, Georgia and Florida State. He might make it back to Clemson for the spring game.
Last season Ladson had 25 catches for 544 yards and 7 touchdowns.
