Clemson guards Gabe DeVoe and Marcquise Reed combined for 46 points to propel the Tigers to a 75-67 win at Wake Forest Saturday afternoon. It’s the Tigers’ fifth straight win over the Demon Deacons and improves their record to 19-4 overall and 8-3 in the ACC.
This was a close game with 12 ties and 20 lead changes until the final three and a half minutes when the Tigers opened things up with good zone defense and free throw shooting.
With Reed and Isaiah Thomas playing with four fouls, Clemson coach Brad Brownell switched his team into a zone and it was effective as the Demon Deacons made just one of their final ten shots. They scored only three points over the final 5:39.
Reed hit a pair of free throws to break the last tie of the game with 3:39 left and give Clemson a 65-64 lead. From there it was basically a parade to the line for the Tigers and they went 8-8. Reed also knocked down a jumper for good measure.
DeVoe continue his stalwart outside shooting with five more threes, part of an 8-11 day from the floor to finish with 24 points. In his last three games Devoe is 15-23 beyond the arc.
Reed had 22 points and the third part of the backcourt trio, Shelton Mitchell, added 10.
The Tigers return home Thursday night for a 7:00 PM matchup with Pitt.
