Both South Carolina Head Women’s Basketball Coach Dawn Staley and Athletic Director Ray Tanner denied allegations of inappropriate fan behavior and the promotion of a hostile atmosphere during Sunday’s game between the Gamecocks and Missouri.
Staley gave a brief statement and said that nothing has come across her desk to signify anything was out of order on Sunday:
Staley declined to address comments which came from Missouri Athletic Director Jim Sterk, which alleged her promotion of a “bad atmosphere” on Sunday. People from the Missouri traveling party speaking independently accused Gamecocks fans of spitting on Missouri players and using racially-charged language. (Sterk audio below courtesy of KTGR Radio)

Tanner said he had spoken with Sterk and the SEC office, calling the Missouri AD’s comments “confusing” on multiple occasions:
Tanner said he looks for a retraction from Sterk along with a quick resolution to this conflict allowing both teams to move forward. South Carolina’s more pressing matter revolves around Thursday’s matchup with #1 Connecticut.
