Decision time is drawing near for those football prospects wishing to get it over with. The early signing period runs December 20-22 so for those planning to sign then, the next few days will be crucial in the recruiting process. Friday we talked to several coaches of key USC and Clemson targets for status updates.
Clemson target RB Lyn-J Dixon of Butler, GA is down to the Tigers and Oklahoma State and will visit the Cowboys this weekend. Clemson running backs coach Tony Elliott and Dixon’s Oklahoma State recruiter were in this week. The coach at Taylor County High School is Mark Wilson: “He likes both of them. I’m not sure how he’s going to do. He’s looking for the best school and the best fit for him.” Wilson said they have no formal announcement function planned for Dixon, and the coach said Dixon hasn’t totally decided if he will sign early. If he does decide to do so, he’ll tweet out his decision.
DE Jarrett Jackson of Palm Beach Gardens, FL is down to USC and Louisville. He has been a Cardinal commitment but took an official visit to USC in early November and the Gamecocks have been a factor ever since. Jackson will sign Wednesday at a school ceremony around Noon. USC coaches Travaris Robinson and Lance Thompson visited Jackson this week. Louisville coaches also were in. William Clark is the coach at Palm Beach Gardens High School: “He and his family are keeping it very close to the vest. No indicators towards me yet. He’s obviously been committed for a very long time but he’s also taken some visits and gone to see some places, too. He’s not a nervous wreck. He’s not a kid that’s shown me that he’s stressing. He may have made a decision in his mind but he has not confirmed that this is where he’s going to be.”
OL Jamaree Salyer of Atlanta is down to Clemson and Georgia and takes his official visit to Georgia this weekend. He has been to Clemson unofficially but hasn’t set an official visit date. Clemson recruiters Tony Elliott and Mike Reed visited this week from Clemson while Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and offensive line coach Sam Pittman visited as well. Chris Slade is the head coach at Pace Academy: “I don’t know. He’s going to decide on the 7th of February. He’s gone back and forth. I don’t know. I’m not trying to play coy.” With Salyer’s decision not to sign next week. he will take more official visits in January.
OL Dylan Wonnum of Tucker, GA will not sign next week and has done very little with his recruiting outside of some unofficial visits to USC and Auburn during the season and some visits from recruiters the past two weeks. USC, Tennessee and LSU were three in to check on him. Will Muschamp and Bryan McClendon were in this week and took in his basketball game. Auburn also is in the mix with the other tree. He has not scheduled any official visits. Bryan Lamar is the coach at Tucker High. “I don’t think he wants to tackle the tough situation. He’s got to make a decision, so I think he kind of bounces around having to make that tough decision. He’s a guy who should be signing on December 20th.” Lamar said he wouldn’t be shocked up Wonnum up and decided to sign on the 20th but he’s not expecting it. USC commitment WR Josh Vann of Tucker will sign Wednesday but is not an early enrollee.
