Mike Ayers was the dean of South Carolina college football coaches until announcing his retirement Wednesday afternoon passing that particular torch on to Clemson’s Dabo Swinney. Ayers spent 30 years at the helm of the Wofford program winning 207 games and 5 southern conference championships including this year. His final team went 10-3 and reached the third round of the FCS playoffs. Ayers said after 30 years it was time for him to move on but added some family considerations also were part of his rationale. He said he would like to see his long time assistant and offensive coordinator Wade Lang replace him.
