6-6 Zion Williamson of Spartanburg Day Tuesday night announced via his blog in USA Today that he will take an official visit to North Carolina this coming weekend. Williamson has taken official visits to Kansas, Kentucky and Duke and unofficial visits to Clemson and USC. He cancelled an official visit for this weekend to UCLA.
In his blog, Williamson rated his visits to Kentucky and Duke as 8 out of 10. At Kentucky, he attended the Big Blue Madness event which was highlighted by an appearance from Drake, with whom he has a personal relationship. He also attended his first horserace. He also went to a couple of practices and he and his family also sat down with coach John Calipari to talk about the future.
“Basically, he said I’d get to play my game there,” Williamson wrote. “The one thing I always do is talk to the players that are experiencing what I could be experiencing if I choose to go to that school and I did that on the visit. All of the guys I talked to said it really feels like home and talked about the things they love about Kentucky.”
At Duke, Williamson attended the Countdown to Craziness event at Cameron Indoor. He sat with coach Mike Krzyzewski during the scrimmage.
“He was showing me how he wouldn’t be putting shackles on me and he’d just let me play my game,” Williamson wrote in his blog. “He was pointing out different times in the game and saying when I get the rebound there’s no need to look for a guard just get up the floor and create in transition.”
Williamson also wrote that he and his family met with Krzyzewski the next night for dinner and another talk.
“He told me that I have one of the biggest brands of for a high school player that he’s seen in a while and that he could continue to help me enhance it and build it.”
Williamson wrote that he has no other official visits planned at this point and he’s not 100% certain he’ll sign in November.
