The start of baseball season is still months away but the process of getting ready for that season began today at USC with the first full team drills. First year head coach Mark Kingston inherits a program sporting two national championship trophies but no trips to Omaha since 2012. He replaces Chad Holbrook, the successor to Ray Tanner after the 2013 season. Holbrook reached two super regionals during his tenure but also missed the NCAA Tournament twice, including last season.
Today marked the beginning of Kingston’s efforts towards getting the Gamecocks back to college baseball’s promised land. The Gamecocks will hold open scrimmages over the weekend on Friday and Saturday.
