In the eyes of the SEC media the Gamecocks got better.
On Friday the SEC released the culminated opinion of those who attended the SEC media day and three Gamecock players were named to All-SEC honors. In 2016 only kicker Elliot Fry made the list on the third team.
This year TE Hayden Hurst made the 2nd team All-SEC list where LB Skai Moore joins him on the defensive side of the ball. WR Deebo Samuel earned a spot on the third team All-SEC. Alabama had 10 player selections which is a record in the SEC.
As for the overall team totals the Gamecocks were picked 4th in the East. Interestingly enough the Gamecocks got more first place votes (3) than Tennessee received (5) yet remain ranked below the Volunteers.
It’s no wonder that Alabama won the SEC-West and was also picked to win the SEC outright however one brave soul picked the Gamecocks to take the SEC. The media has correctly crowned the SEC champion only 4 times in the last 20 years.
