DB Steven Gilmore Jr. of South Pointe narrowed his list to a final four of USC, Georgia, Louisville and North Carolina with a commitment announcement set for September 17th. Gilmore plans a round of visits to all of his finalists before making his decision and at this point he doesn’t have a favorite.
“I feel like there’s a good opportunity at each one of those schools for me,” Gilmore said. “USC, they are the home state team. They have good coaches and are turning things around. They hit me up, check up on me a lot. North Carolina, I love the coaches and their atmosphere. Louisville, I talk to coach (Lorenzo) Ward a lot. There’s a good opportunity there because a lot of their secondary will be gone. And Georgia, what they bring to the table is their atmosphere and their stadium.”
Gilmore has strong ties to the USC program thru his brother, former Gamecock and current NFL star cornerback Stephon Gilmore. But he says that’s really no advantage for the Gamecocks and his brother is staying out of the process.
“He says to do what I want to do, do what’s best for me,” he said.
Gilmore said all of the schools are recruiting with the same intensity.
