The Gamecocks head coaching search now continues past the season.
With the Florida’s victory in the College World Series many eyes around the state are looking to see if the Gamecocks make a move on the Gators coach Kevin Sullivan. But without a truck full of cash, Gamecocks Athletics Director Ray Tanner may not be able to pry the league’s top coach from Gainesville.
On SportsTalk, Kornblut and the gang checked in on people who know one fo the candidates that interviewed for the job. Kornblut talked with Joey Knight the Tampa Bay Times beat writer for the University of South Florida. Knight says if you look at resume and not the name, USF coach Mark Kingston is a top five up-and-coming coaching candidate.
Sources close to Kingston indicated the USF coach would stay put in Tampa after interviews with Alabama and VT…but answered when Tanner called.
That isn’t all that surprising considering the heralds of the program at USC but we wanted to hear about what Knight had to say in the possibility him coming to the Upstate.
