When you’ve got a family with NBA and college-level basketball talent, you go with your gut and commit to a school that feels like most like family says John Newman III of Greensboro, NC. On Monday, the latest member of Brad Brownell’s team joined SportsTalk to talk basketball and all the factors that led to his commitment.
Newman says his basketball roots are most connected to his dad who played at James Madison, but he gets confused most often with his cousin Johnny Newman who played for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 80s. When Newman made his visits to Clemson he said it felt the team actually wanted to know him and asked him questions about his personal life that left an impression as impressive as the newly renovated Littlejohn arena.
Standing 6-5 feet tall, Newman projects as a defensive wing for the Tigers. He said he’s learning to shoot more, especially from deep, but he knows his defensive knowledge attracted Brownell’s eye.
