DB Kyler McMichael of Norcross, GA is one of the top athletes in Georgia for the 2018 class. He’s an explosive player with the ball in his hands and that’s how his coach Tim Hardy plays to use him again this season. But the college recruiters love him as a cornerback, someone with exceptional closing speed and cover skills. McMichael has a final six of Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama and Florida State and Friday he will announce his choice.
If McMichael chooses Clemson, Hardy said it will be in large part due to the relationships he has developed with the Tigers’ staff over his multiple visits there.
“Clearly the program at Clemson under Coach Swinney’s leadership is absolutely outstanding in terms of understanding how to connect relationally with their student-athletes, to get to know them first as people and then help them meet their individual and their team goals,” Hardy said. “I know he’s appreciated, specifically at Clemson, the environment and the genuine nature of the people throughout the football program. He enjoyed all his visits to Clemson.”
Hardy said once McMichael makes the final decision he will contact all six schools and let each know. He is playing in a seven-on-seven tournament Friday morning and will post his decision on Twitter sometime Friday. Hardy was not sure if it will go up between games in the morning or later in the day.
This month McMichael made visits to Clemson, Auburn, Tennessee and Georgia. While primarily sought for defense, schools are telling McMichael he could get some touches on offense. Last season he rushed for 1500 yards and 16 touchdowns and caught 14 passes for 214 yards and a score.
