Alabama and Auburn usually lock down the top talent in their state but occasionally a top prospect will slip thru the border. Clemson is one of the schools hoping to pull off the thievery of WR Justyn Ross (6-4 195) of Phenix City from the Crimson Tide and Tigers. And there are eight more on his short list trying to do likewise.Ross visited Clemson earlier this spring so he got got an inside look. He’s also watched from afar as one big time receiver after another has rolled thru the program. That’s what has him highly interested.
“Just the way they produce receivers and bring them out of Clemson, and the way Coach Scott coaches, I like the way he handles himself,” Ross said. “Most of the time I see them throwing the ball around a lot and they are always going to have a good quarterback to throw the ball to the receivers. Coach Scott really broke it down to me about how he puts his receivers in the league, all the receivers he put in the league the last four years. He tells me I’m a different type guy because I’m a big receiver who can do little receiver things.”
Ross said he likes to compare himself to Mike Williams and Julio Jones. Last season he had 38 catches for 663 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Regarding his decision, Ross wants to take some more visits before making his decision. He also has been to Alabama, Auburn and Florida State. Also on his short list Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Ohio State, LSU, Southern Cal, Miami and Florida.
Ross said there is not a leader for him and he did not grow up a particular fan of Alabama or Auburn.
