The Wolves enter the rankings at No. 23 this week after winning their seventh game in a row, tied for the second-longest winning streak and fourth-longest unbeaten streak in school history. Newberry’s eight conference wins dating back to last season are a new school record.
This marks Newberry’s 28th appearance in the AFCA poll since it was instituted in 2000. Newberry is 16-11 all-time as a ranked team. The Wolves were ranked for 22 weeks between 2006 and 2008, including an all-time high of No. 9 during the final week of the 2006 regular season.
Newberry is one of six teams from Super Region 2 in this week’s national poll.
The Wolves will put their No. 23 ranking to the test this week as they fight to retain the Bishops’ Trophy against Lutheran rivals Lenoir-Rhyne. Kickoff from Setzler Field is set for 4:00 p.m.
