It was a “one step forward, two steps back” kind of day for the Panthers in their 22-10 loss against the Minnesota Vikings. The Panthers defense opened up strong keeping the Vikings to only 35 total yards in the first half and jumped to an early 10-0 lead but they could not hold on to that momentum because of a smothering defensive clinic put on by the Minnesota Vikings.
The Minnesota Vikings defense sacked Cam Newton 8 times, took away 3 passes for interceptions and scored two points off of a safety. The defensive outing that the Vikings put forward truly got to the heads of the Carolina Panthers who committed 10 penalties for 65 yards, one of which was a meaningless block in the back by Kelvin Benjamin that called back a 56 yard touchdown.
Ron Rivera said his players were not at all disciplined in this game and that all of the penalties show that he did not get his team ready to play.
You can hear what Ron Rivera had to say about the loss below:
For the most part the Panther’s defense did their job in this game. They held the Panthers to only 211 yards and allowed only 14 points but Luke Kuechly said that his team didn’t do a good job of winning the turnover battle.
