6-10 Nick Claxton of Legacy Charter in Greenville is taking his first official visit this weekend to Florida State. He also is set to visit Georgia September 30th, Baylor October 14th, NC October 21st and USC on a date his coach, BJ Jackson, could not recall.
Claxton visited USC unofficially earlier this summer and Frank Martin is scheduled to come up to Greenville for a visit with Claxton Monday.
“He’s always mentioned he loves coach Martin’s style of play,” Jackson said. “Carolina is close to home. He enjoys being around Matin a lot. He likes all the head coaches and what each has to offer. He has not said much about who is leading.”
Claxton is a Greenville native. Both of his parents went to Georgia. He has not decided if he will sign in November and will make a decision on that after the in-home visits.
Jackson said from his conversations with Martin it’s obvious the Gamecock head coach likes a lot about Claxton who is primarily a small forward because of his outside offensive skills. Jackson believes Claxton would be an easy fit in Martin’s system.
“With his ability to shoot the ball for his size is a big upside for him,” Jackson said. “He’s 6-10 and shoots the ball as good as any two or three guard around in the state of South Carolina. He’s a great shot blocker so in the pressure defense Frank likes to apply along with his man defense he would fit in.”
Claxton is only 195 pounds and has been working in the weight room to add to his frame. He averaged 15 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks per game.
