If USC wants to land WR Justin Marshall of Covington, GA, it’s going to have to pick up the effort. Marshall has the Gamecocks in his top four but said he’s had no contact with them since his visit a couple of weeks ago. He did receive his official offer from the Gamecocks Sunday night.
Meantime, Louisville, Marshall’s identified leader, is working him the hardest of anyone. What do the Gamecocks need to do to overcome the Cardinals?
“Just show a little bit more love,” Marshall said. “I’m big on relationships. I’m big on stuff like that. I’m big on relationships with me and the coaches so that when I get there or I commit there I know the type of relationship we have or built up.”
One factor that could work in the Gamecocks’ favor is new USC DB recruit Steven Montac and Marshall are former high school teammates and are close friends. Marshall, in fact, visited USC with Montac last month.
“He’s like a role model to me,” Marshall said. “I feel like I want to go somewhere where I know somebody. Chances are I could end up rooming with Steve. I went up there with him and we just chilled out and had some fun, did some stuff other than football. I like that South Carolina is big on not jamming football inside your head.”
Marshall hopes to make his decision before the start of the season. He’s talked about making the call on August 15th but he said he’s not married to that date.
Monday night Marshall acknowledged that Louisville is his current favorite. He also has in his top five USC, Tennessee, Maryland and Auburn. He plans to add four more to his list and release a top nine later this week.
Marshall said he’s not taking any more visits this month but he does plan to take official visits even after he commits.
