DB CJ Avery (6-1 196) of Grenada, MS Monday released his top ten list. Clemson is among the elite group along with Mississippi, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Louisville, Tennessee, Michigan, Alabama, Auburn and Cal. Avery has never visited Clemson but that will change next week when he makes a three day camp stay.
“It’s a great program, of course, seeing them in the national championship last year,” Avery said. “They have had some great DBs there in the last couple of years. I’m looking forward to getting down there.”
Avery also plans to camp at Louisville, Tennessee and Auburn.
The Tigers and his other favorites all scouted Avery during the spring and what they saw was a player who excels on the backline of the defense.
“I just come in and hit,” he said. “And I can cover receivers.”
Last season Avery had 76 tackles and 5 interceptions.
Avery said he doesn’t have a timeline on a decision but he will be an early graduate. There is no favorite among the ten and he plans to narrow his list one more time.
