It’s the Memorial Day holiday weekend but it was no day off Saturday for USC head coach Will Muschamp and some members of his staff as they entertained WR MJ Jarrell of Orlando, his mother, two aunts and two cousins. Jarrell got full exposure to the USC football program, the campus and the academics. And the Gamecocks are in a better place with him as a result.
“They showed me how they would incorporate me thru my highlight tape showing me plays that they run and how I score,” Jarrell said. “They just really like my playmaking ability. I sat with my whole family and Coach Muschamp. He’s a really good guy. You can tell that he genuinely cares about the players. It was a really good experience. I got to try on the jersey and the helmet and that was pretty cool also.”
Jarrell also met with receivers coach Bryan McClendon, talked with the academic adviser and met with the new strength coach.
“I did enjoy it and I know my family did also,” said Jarrell who has family in Columbia and Manning. “My mom really liked it, she loved it.”
Jarrell released a top ten list last week and USC was part of that. Now he has the Gamecocks in his top three along with Virginia Tech and Maryland, both of which he’s also visited.
“They said that I’m a really top prospect for them, a guy that they really want there,” he said. “I got in touch with their recent QB commit (Jay Urich). It’s a process but I do plan to commit early in the summer so I can secure a spot and focus on playing football next season. As far as the campus and the opportunity to play, it’s a really big opportunity to pass up. I’m just going to soak everything in and see how I feel and sit down as a family and let them know what the plan is and how we’re going to go about things.”
Jarrell said he doesn’t have any other visits set at this point. The other schools in his top ten are Duke, Louisville, NC State, Indiana, Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Wake Forest.
