The executive committee of the South Carolina High School League, meeting Wednesday in Columbia, approved the playoff plan for the 2016 football season, and all five championship games will be played on the same weekend in Columbia.
The 1A and 2A championships will remain at Benedict College with the doubleheader set for a Friday. The 3A, 4A and 5A championship games will return for at least another year to Williams-Brice Stadium the next day.
The exact dates and kickoff times have not been set.
In recent years the 1A championship games were played the Friday after Thanksgiving which also is the day before the Clemson-USC game. The other championship games were played the following Friday and Saturday.
This season all teams will play 10 game schedules and all playoff teams will be determined by region finish. There no longer is a points system for playoff purposes.
The committee also voted in support of the South Carolina Football Coaches Association recommendation to limit full contact practice during regular season and post-season practices to 90 minutes per week. This initiative is supported by NFHS as well as the South Carolina Trainers Association.
