USC football coach Will Muschamp is set to commence his first “SpursUp” tour Wednesday night with a gathering of Gamecock fans in The Zone at Williams-Brice Stadium. Muschamp will make eight other stops around the state thru May 24th with visits to Sumter, Greenwood, Spartanburg, Myrtle Beach, Florence, Greenville, Aiken and Charleston.
Muschamp will be transported around the state in what’s been dubbed the “Boom Bus”, a motor coach loaned to the athletics department by King Cadillac in Florence. The bus is wrapped in garnet and black and features an image of Muschamp on both sides.
Muschamp met with some reporters Wednesday in front of the bus parked outside of Williams-Brice. He said he had completed all exit interviews with his players and right now no one else is leaving the program.
Muschamp also wanted to clarity what he termed “misinformation and confusion” about the spiritual development program for his players. It came to light late last week that Muschamp did not retain the team’s long time chaplain as he is expanding the program. Muschamp said the Freedom From Religion Foundation had no impact on his decision. He also said he has retained former Gamecock defensive back Andre Goodman to work with the players in areas “beyond football.”
Muschamp also said he understands and accepts the NCAA’s ruling against Marcus Lattimore taking a paid position in his organization. Muschamp said at the time of the offer to Lattimore he did not realize the full scope of Lattimore’s involvement in his foundation.
