USC will face a Final Four team next season in Brooklyn. According to the Barclays Center website, the USC and Syracuse will meet Saturday November 26th at the Barclays Center. The game is part of the Brooklyn Hoops Holiday Invitational. They haven’t announced a game time yet, but tickets go on sale April 19th.
Frank Martin has made a habit of taking his team to the New York City area since he took over the Gamecocks program. Among the games they’ve played in or near the Big Apple, St. John’s last year and Iowa State in 2014.
The Gamecocks were perfect in their non-conference slate last season and won 25 games. However, despite this they were left out of the NCAA Tournament and settled for a #1 seed in the NIT. Syracuse sneaked into the NCAA Tourney with an RPI in the 70s, but made the most of it with a run all the way to the Final Four before they lost to North Carolina in the semi-finals.
The last time USC and Syracuse played in New York was the 2002 NIT semi-final at Madison Square Garden. USC won 66-59 with Dave Odom on the bench. They lost to Memphis in the title game. Coincidentally, the Gamecocks will also face Memphis in its non-conference slate next season.
