According to multiple reports, including TheBigSpur.com and The State, USC defensive back Darrin Smalls is no longer a part of the Gamecock football team. Small is a Summerville High School product who has never played a snap at USC. He injured his knee during his final year of high school so he didn’t enroll until January of last year. He took a red-shirt last season and was not on the depth chart this year.
Smalls plays safety, a spot that Will Muschamp has cited repeatedly as position of concern for the Gamecocks. Last week safety Chris Moody returned to the team after initially telling the coaching staff that he planned to transfer. Moody participated in Senior Day festivities last year with the intention of playing his final year at another program.
Smalls makes the sixth scholarship player to leave the Gamecocks program since Will Muschamp too over.
