The mystery of why Frank Martin suspended five of his players shortly before Tuesday night’s NIT opener is over. Police arrested USC freshman Eric Cobb and Jamall Gregory Thursday morning for allegedly shooting a BB gun at cars and buildings earlier this month. Police say Gregory used the BB gun to damage three cars on March 9th and Cobb used one March 7th to shoot at a car with someone in it. The driver of the car wasn’t injured, according to police, but the window was damaged.
Frank Martin indefinitely suspended Cobb and Gregory along with TeMarcus Blanton, Chris Silva, and Marcus Stroman. Martin said he “didn’t know” if any of the five players would return to the team.
The Gamecocks face Georgia Tech Monday night in a 2nd round NIT game in Columbia.
Frank Martin has issued a statement:
“We are aware of the allegations against Eric Cobb and Jamall Gregory and we will have no further comment at this time due to this being a legal matter.”
All five players remains indefinitely suspended.
