DE Arden Key of Atlanta is no stranger to USC. Throughout his up and down relationship with the Gamecocks, including a pair of decommitments, Key has made several trips to Columbia. His most recent was his official visit over the weekend. That trip served to further educate him on the program.
“Everything was an overview because I’ve been plenty of times,” Key said. “I know a lot of players and it was all about catching up, talking a little football. I know a lot of people on the team so I have a lot of inside track on what’s going on in South Carolina football.”
Key did have some questions ready for Steve Spurrier when he got the chance to talk to him. It had to do with the future of the defensive coaches. Key is particularly tight with defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward.
“All the coaches are staying, they are just going to add coaches,” Key said. “They said none of their coaches are leaving so adding coaches is always a good thing.”
Key also sees a chance for immediate playing time with the Gamecocks.
“They said I have the opportunity to come in and play as a true freshman,” he said. “That was the weakest point on the defense last year. They need a pass rusher and that’s what I can do, I can get to the quarterback. So, my opportunity is great.”
Key has also visited LSU and Miami and he will visit Auburn this coming weekend.
“No favorites,” he said. “I’m just taking all of that in.”
Key plans to announce his choice on the Fox Sports South program Next Level on February 2nd.
