USC wrapped up its biggest recruiting weekend of January Sunday afternoon while Clemson had official visits from two committed players. We are tracking all of the official visits involving USC and Clemson targets as well as in-state prospects and we’ll update the information here throughout the day.
OL Sam Madden of Barnegat, NJ committed to Georgia Sunday at the conclusion of his official visit. Madden is a former Wisconsin commitment. USC also made a strong play for him and he was scheduled to make an official visit with the Gamecocks this coming weekend. His father said they are finished and will not make the USC visit.
Former USC commitment RB Joe Blue of Dillon made an official visit to Newberry over the weekend.
Shrine Bowlers WR Er’Ieon Hayes of Dillon and OL Shaq Crouch of Johnsonville officialed to SC State over the weekend.
DE Arden Key of Atlanta, twice a USC commitment but currently uncommitted, made his official visit over the weekend. He left Columbia uncommitted and apparently no closer to a final decision. “I enjoyed the visit but it wasn’t anything I hadn’t seen before,” Key said. “I got some questions answered. We were told no coaches are leaving and they are going to add coaches.” Key said he will visit Auburn this coming weekend. He has also been to LSU and Miami. He plans to announce a final decision February 2nd on the Next Level show on Fox Sports South.
OL Cory Helms of Alpharetta, GA, who is transferring from Wake Forest, visited USC over the weekend and is strongly considering the Gamecocks though he hasn’t made his decision. “It went really well,” he said. “I had a good time meeting with a bunch of the players. Coach Elliott is a real good coach and real energetic. He will coach you hard. I met with coach Spurrier a couple of times. He’s also very energetic. I told them they are really high on my list and have a good chance.” Helms also has visited Mississippi State and Texas A&M. He will visit Penn State this coming weekend and will have a decision soon after that. He did say he has a favorite right now but didn’t want to disclose it. He’s expecting recruiters from all the schools to visit him this week.
USC commitment OL Christian Pellage made his official visit over the weekend and said he enjoyed it but he did not leave with a 100% decision, at least publicly. He said he is deciding between the Gamecocks and Florida and may not have a final decision until Signing Day. He has also visited Florida.
OL Trey Derouen of Lilburn,, GA made his official visit to USC over the weekend and did not make a commitment. “Great place to be at and I can see myself playing there,” he said. Derouen said he does not have a favorite and won’t have a decision until Signing Day. He has also been to Louisville and is scheduled to visit Kansas State January 28-30 and Florida this coming weekend.
USC commitment DE Quandeski Whitlow of Opelika, AL said after his official visit with the Gamecocks over the weekend he is 100% committed and is shutting down his recruiting. He was scheduled to visit Florida this coming weekend but won’t make that visit. He also visited Louisville. “Everything went great,” he said. “My mom, dad and brother had fun with all the coaches. The coaches love my family. I’m still firm, 100%. It’s over with me. The relationship I built with coach Adams and coach Spurrier, it felt comfortable for me and my family.”
USC commitment DB Damon Arnette of Fort Lauderdale made his official visit over the weekend and remains committed. He has also visited Michigan and plans to visit Ohio State this coming weekend before finalizing a decision
Byrnes WR Tavin Richardson is one his official visit to Kentucky thru Monday. He didn’t arrive until Saturday. He also has visited Nebraska and Central Florida. Richardson plans to announce his decision Friday.
Presbyterian picked up a commitment from LB Logan Petty of St. Augustine, FL. He was an all-state selection.
DE Rasool Clemons of South Aiken Sunday committed to Ole Miss at the conclusion of his official visit. Clemons was a Virginia commitment until breaking ties with the Cavaliers earlier this month. He had 110 tackles and 9 sacks this past season.
Junior DB James Valdez of Lake Marion made a surprising announcement on Twitter Sunday morning. He has committed to NC State. Valdez is considered one of the top prospects in South Carolina for next season. He also holds offers from USC, Tennessee, North Carolina, Wake Forest and SC State. Clemson has also shown interest but hasn’t offered.
Shrine Bowl QB Marquane Goodman of West Florence committed to SC State over the weekend while on his official visit. He had been committed to North Carolina Central. The Bulldogs also picked up a commitment from WR Kanyon Tuttle of Charlotte, the son of former Clemson All American receiver Perry Tuttle.
AC Florida WR/DB Denzel Johnson made an official visit to SC State over the weekend. Johnson visited Clemson last weekend and had planned to commit to the Tigers but they backed off of that because of some academic concerns Johnson still has to address. Johnson also has visited Towson and is scheduled to visit NC State this coming weekend.
WR Kevin Eichelberger, North-South selection from Hillcrest, and WR Darian Patterson of Wade Hampton, committed to Union College in Kentucky over the weekend.
