OL Nick Buchanan (6-4 290) of Dunwoody, GA committed to California in December and remains committed, but others are approaching him to see if he might consider a change. USC and Georgia are two which recently offered him and are hoping to get him in for an official visit.
“I’m still locked into California and I don’t plan on decommitting,” Buchanan said. “Every school that has the courtesy to offer me a full scholarship to play football, I’m going to listen to what they have to say. I’m not going to shut them out and just say I’m already committed to California, thanks but no thanks.”
No coaches were in to see Buchanan Thursday but he’s expecting Georgia in on Friday and USC early next week. He has taken an official visit to Cal and has not scheduled any others at this point. He wants to talk to the coaches first and if he likes what they have to say, he’ll set the other official visits.
“I grew up in Georgia, I know about South Carolina,” Buchanan said. “Steve Spurrier, some say hall of fame head coach, one of the best there is. Endless names in the NFL.”
Penn State is also showing strong interest in Buchanan and plans to see him next week. But right now Cal still holds the upper hand on the rest and it will be hard to pry him from the Golden Bears.
“One of the best educations in the world,” he said of Cal. “Everybody knows the Berkeley name education wise. Also, you get to play Power 5 conference football. You get to play Oregon and go to the Rose Bowl. And I really like the coaches and when I went on my official I liked how the players gelled with each other.”
Buchanan said the distance is a little concern but it’s not a big concern for him.
Buchanan played guard and tackle in high school but the colleges like him for a tackle.
