USC extended its winning streak to six games Tuesday night with a 91-54 win over North Carolina A&T at the Colonial Life Arena. It’s the Gamecocks longest winning streak since the 201-11 season. The Gamecocks average winning margin during the streak is 21 points.
Martin cleared his bench early and every player scored except Brian Steele. Mindaugas Kacinas led the way with 16 points. He had a pefrect shooting night going 5-5 from the floor and 6-6 from the line. Kacinas was one of 6 Gamecocks in double figures. Laimonas Chatkevicius added 14 points and 9 rebounds.
The Gamecocks shot 55.8%, hit 5-9 threes and 38-34 at the line. They took advantage of their size to score 42 points in the paint and win the rebounding battle 41-20.
The game marked the debut of freshman forward Shamiek Sheppard for USC. He had ACL surgery last summer and only recently was cleared to practice. Martin said he met with Sheppard 90 minutes before the game and the decision was made to lift his redshirt and play him the final 20 games of the regular season. In five minutes Sheppard had 3 points and 2 rebounds.
The Gamecocks are 8-3 and will return to action January 3rd against Iowa State in Brooklyn, NY.
