SMU Sunday afternoon officially announced the hiring of Clemson offensive coordinator Chad Morris as the Mustangs new coach. Morris will be introduced Monday at a press conference in Dallas.
The deal between SMU and Morris was first reported on Wednesday by Chip Brown of HornsDigest.com. That report stated Morris would get a deal that would average three million dollars per season.
Morris a a Texas native who was a highly successful high school coach in the state before joining the college ranks. He spent the last four seasons at Clemson.
At Auburn, defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson, a South Carolina native and former defensive coordinator at Clemson and USC, reportedly has been fired. AuburnUndercover and AL.com reported Sunday afternoon that Johnson is out after two seasons on The Plains. The Tigers are allowing 26 points per game this season.
