For reasons known only to them, some people decided to take a few innocuous comments from Steve Spurrier’s postgame press conference at Florida Saturday and turn them into a craven shot at injured Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson. It was a ridiculous claim and we did our best to clear it up yesterday. Today, Kornbut asked Steve Spurrier to respond.
Somebody told me about that. I occasionally refer to them as the Upstate team, that’s not, I don’t think that’s negative, is it? Well, I didn’t mean to (offend Clemson), put it that way. They’re interpreting too much. I have tremendous respect for Clemson and Dabo. I like him. I like all of those guys. Venables. They’ve done an excellent job. They’ve done a better job that we have this year, that’s for sure. They have the bragging rights as far as the record on us, that’s for sure. They played the same time as we did. I was just asking in fact if they had lost. I knew they were behind, but I didn’t know the final score. I’ll try not to say anything to upset them through the next couple of weeks, anyway.”
