Georgia Tech jumped right on the Clemson defense to open the second half. On the first play, quarterback Justin Thomas broke off a 65 yard run to the Clemson 10. Three plays later Thomas tossed a 5 yard touchdown pass to Deandre Smelter to give Tech a 16-3 lead.
Clemson’s first play of the half didn’t go as well as Tech’s. Stoudt was intercepted at the Tiger 44. The Yellow Jackets reached the Tiger 10 then settled for a 32 yard field goal by Butker. Georgia Tech 19-3.
The Tigers finally got some offense on their next possession with Wayne Gallman doing most of the damage on the ground. But they couldn’t punch it into the end zone and Lakip nailed a 32 yard field goal to cut the lead to 19-6.
The Tiger defense came up with another fumble recovery at their own 39 and it appeared momentum may be swinging their way. But that was quickly reversed with Stoudt was intercepted by Chris Milton who went 62 yards for a touchdown and a 25-6 lead after the two point conversion attempt failed.
Nick Schussler finished the quarter as Clemson’s quarterback.
End of quarter…Georgia Tech 25-Clemson 6
