Former Clemson assistant Shaka Smart made his name with the Tigers with some big hits in recruiting. Now the head coach at VCU, Smart has struck again in the Palmetto State landing 6-5 standout Tevin Mack of Dreher. Mack announced his commitment to the Rams this afternoon during a signing ceremony at his school. He picked VCU over USC, Clemson, Georgia and Connecticut.
Mack acknowledged after his announcement that he had a very difficult time making his decision and at one time or another he favored each of the five schools. He also confirmed that after PJ Dozier committed to USC Wednesday, he had stronger thoughts about the Gamecocks Wednesday night. A source said USC looked like his pick when Mack went to bed Wednesday night. But after conferring with his family and confidants at the school, Mack settled on VCU.
After his announcement, Mack met with reporters to talk about his decision.
