Clemson is into its second bye week of the season and considering the Tigers have several walking wounded, the break should do them some good. The Tigers are 6-2 and with four game left, Dabo Swinney is looking for a strong finish beginning with the next game a week from Thursday at Wake Forest. Monday morning on his weekly conference call Swinney reviewed some of the key points on the win over Syracuse and other aspects of his team.
Some of Swinney’s key comments:
Proud of final drive of over 8 minutes. Haven’t had many of those time consuming drives.
Focus this week is to get players and staff recharged.
Liked what he saw out of Tavaris Barnes. Linebackers are playing at a high level.
Had good drives but didn’t come away with points. Had some untimely miscues. Proud of Cole Stoudt. Did good job in run game & screens.
Quarterback got hit too much and had some negative plays. Need to work on some fundamental things. Two picks were on the offensive line.
Really likes what he saw in the fourth quarter. Good win. Glad to be 6-2. Peake will do some running this week. Guillermo getting better.
Thinks Watson can do more this week. Got a different splint for him that will allow him to do more. Find out more when they practice Wed.
Thinks Stoudt is getting better each week. Feels he did an excellent job against what they are seeing on defense. Made some excellent throws.
Open date coming at a good time because they have a chance to get some guys healthy and get some guys back.
Swinney: “But for three or four plays down in Tallahassee, we’re in the driver’s seat (in ACC Atlantic).”
Wanted to get Dye in the game but it wasn’t the right situation for him. Get him more work in practice the next two weeks.
