Auburn started the second half with the ball. The Tigers started on their own 12 after a short return. Again, the bad field position meant nothing to the Tigers. They went 88 yards in 13 plays and scored a touchdown on a Nick Marshall run from four yards out. USC started its first drive of the second half on its own 28. The Gamecocks answered and fast, too. After converting a 3rd-8 with a 13 yard pass, USC hit a big play to tie it. On 2nd down Thompson hit Cooper for a 51 yard touchdown. That made it 28-28 with 7:40 left in the quarter. 5-72-1:44 on the drive.
Auburn started from its own 25. One play and 75 yards later Ricardo Lewis was in the end zone for a touchdown. That made it 35-28 Auburn with 7:29 to play in the quarter.
USC stated its next drive on its own 25. After moving the chains on the first series, the Gamecocks converted a 4th-6 from their own 40 to keep the drive alive. One play later Mike Davis broke off a long run into Auburn territory. Two plays later an 18 yard Shaq Roland catch moved it to the 10. On first and goal Nick Jones caught a 10 yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 35-35 with 2:20 to play in the quarter. 11-75-5:09 on the drive.
USC went with an onside kick and got it. They recovered on their own 45. USC moved to Auburn’s half of the field on a Mike Davis run. They converted a third and long on the next series to extend the drive. They had a third and four at the Auburn 26 with the quarter ended.
