The Hardee’s Trophy, which has been presented to the winner of the Clemson-USC football game for the past 30 years, is going the way of the 15 cent hamburger.
Athletic department personnel at Clemson and USC are working on a new trophy/cup and plan to unveil it in time for this season’s game at Clemson November 29th according to a source with knowledge of the behind the scenes conversations.
At this point, the plan is not to have a corporate name on the victory piece. What is also still being determined is its exact shape, a trophy or a cup. The idea behind going with the smaller cup style is that can easily be placed in each school’s trophy case.
The source said the exact name of the winner’s spoil is still being debated but the word Palmetto likely will be prominent with trophy or cup completing the moniker.
