The quarter got off to a bad start for the Tigers. First, word came down that Watson would be out for the rest of the game with an injury to his passing hand that was later identified as a broken finger. He apparently suffered the injury on a 9 yard run to the Louisville sideline on his next to last play. Then soon after that news, the Cardinals finished off their late first quarter drive with Brown running in for a two years score. Louisville 10-7.
Clemson got a break when Louisville fumbled a punt and the Tigers recovered at the Louisville 37. But the drive went backwards two yards and Clemson had to punt.
That punt pinned the Cardinals back to their own 9. On third down from the 11, Bonnafon was hit by Garry Peters while attempting to pass and fumbled. Tavaris Barnes recovered the ball at the 2 and bulled his way into the end zone. Clemson 14-10.
The Tigers blew a great scoring opportunity at the end of the half. A 23 yard pass from Cole Stoudt to Mike Williams put the ball at the 1, but the Tigers had no time outs. Stoudt w threw an incomplete pass on the next play, and then was stopped for no gain as he rolled out of the pocket looking for a receiver. The Tigers tried to line up to spike the ball but were called for illegal formation, and the ten second run-off ended the half.
End of quarter…Clemson 14-10.
