Facing a second an 10 to start the fourth quarter, USC picked up 28 on a pass to Cody Gibson. The Gamecocks kept it going from there and continued to pound it on the ground. The drive ended with a 26 yard touchdown run for Mike Davis, his third of the game. That made it 38-24 USC with 11:45 to play. Drive summary 8-73-3:33.
Kentucky started its next drive on USC’s 47 after a 44 yard kickoff return. The Wildcats took advantage of the solid field position. The Wildcats took it in for a touchdown with a one yard run by Jojo Kemp to make it 38-31 with 8:06 to play.
The Cats forced a USC punt and then went on a game tying drive of 75 yards in 7 plays, all on the ground. Kemp, from the Wildcat, ran in from five yards out to make it 38-38 with 2:46 to play.
Disaster then struck the Gamecocks. On the third play of the next drive, Dylan Thompson’s pass was batted into the air and picked off by defensive end Bud Dupree who ran six yards for what turned out to be the game winning touchdown.
The Gamecocks started their final possession on their 27 with 2:23 left and three timeouts. They got one first down to their 46 but Thompson threw high to Pharoh Cooper down the middle and the pass was intercepted by Ashley Lowery at the UK 30. He returned the pick to the 38 and Kentucky was able to run out the clock from there.
