Vanderbilt woke up the crowd on the opening kickoff as Darrius Sims took a short kick from Landon Ard and returned it 91 yards for a touchdown. The Gamecocks also gave up a kickoff return for a touchdown four games ago, against Wisconsin in the bowl game.
The Gamecock offense came out throwing. On their first two possessions, Steve Spurrier called 9 straight pass plays. There were 8 attempts and a sack. The Gamecocks missed on three deep balls including one drop by Shaq Roland at the Vandy 35 that would have been a score.
The Commodores padded their lead with a 60 yard drive in 8 plays. Patton Robinette hit CJ Duncan at the Gamecock 3 and slipped a tackle to get into the end zone to complete an 8 yard touchdown pass. Vanderbilt leads 14-0.
