The Gamecocks could not move the ball on their first possession of the half, but the Aggies could. Hill continued to pick apart the secondary, and when the Gamecocks softened up for the pass, Hill handed off to one of his speedy running backs. The Aggies drove 66 yards in 8 plays with Hill connecting with Josh Reynolds on a 5 yard scoring pass to make it a 38-14 game.
On the verge of getting blown out, the Gamecock offense gave their fans some hope with a 81 yard drive in 8 plays capped by a 5 yard pass from Thompson to Pharoh Cooper. A pass interference call against the Aggies at the goal line helped to set up the Gamecocks’ score which made it a 38-21 game.
The Gamecocks attempted an onside kick but the Aggies recovered at the USC 42 and that led to another score, a 2 yard run by Tra Carson to give the Aggies a 45-21 advantage.
The Gamecocks responded with another scoring drive of their own. Going almost exclusively to the air, Thompson moved his team down the field and capped the drive with a 10 yard pass to Nick Jones who made a diving catch and got a foot down in bounds on the far right side of the end zone. That cut the deficit to 45-28.
End of quarter…Aggies 45-28.
