RB Ty’son Williams of Crestwood remains a USC target and he has the Gamecocks in his final three along with Georgia and North Carolina. Williams will be in Columbia Saturday for the Gamecock Showcase camp and that will give him another chance to check out the Gamecocks, and vice versa.
“I like Coach Adams,” Williams said. “It’s a good campus.” Williams also sees the chance of early playing time at USC appealing. “At least one of the two freshmen will have to suit up and play. It’s a good opportunity for early playing time.”
Williams has said he would announce a decision August 1st but that’s not an absolute date for him. It could be anytime between then and his first game August 29th.
“I just want to have that feeling and go with it,” he said. “It’s a lifetime decision. You don’t want to rush into it. I want to sit on it long enough and make sure it’s the right decision – but not sit on it too long. I did want to do something with my teammates. I may do it. I may not. I might just commit and get to the grind about football. That’s what it’s all about. I don’t want to take anything away from them. I am still in high school. I don’t want people distracting me and not be able to help my team win a championship. I will be doing them a disservice.”
Williams, for a time, had strongly considered some schools farther away like Notre Dame and Wisconsin. But as he thought more about it, he figured out that staying withing a few hours of home wasn’t a bad idea.
