DL DJ Jones of East Mississippi JC and Wren High School announced a commitment to Florida State Sunday after wrapping up a weekend visit with the Seminoles. Jones had been favoring Tennessee since issuing a top ten earlier in the summer. He’d also been strongly considering Clemson and USC. Jones graduates from the junior college in December and can enroll in January.
The USC baseball team picked up a commitment Sunday for the 2016 class from RHP/3B Joey Polak of Canton, MO. Polak is ranked the #26 prospect in the country by PerfectGame.com. Here’s the scouting report in Polak from PerfectGame:
Polak has an XL frame with a young projectable build. Defensively he has good 3B actions with good footwork to the baseball. Polak has good actions and plays through the ball well. He has good arm strength up to 83 MPH with good carry on his throws. At the plate, Polak starts with a wide stance and a high hand set. He has an aggressive approach and has quick hands to the baseball. He has good bat speed with big time pop. Polak gets good extension at contact and the ball jumps off his bat. He has high level hitting tools with big power potential. He pitches from a 3/4 arm slot with a long loose arm action. He has good arm speed with projectable velocity. He attacks the strike zone and has a clean delivery. Polak throws a tight slider at 72 MPH and a change up at 76 MPH. Legit two-way prospect with high level tools. Very good student, named to Top Prospect Team.
OL Zack Bailey of Summerville did not make it to Columbia Sunday. Bailey attended the cookout at Clemson Friday and had thought about visiting USC Sunday and attending the High School Sports Report Media Day at Williams-Brice Stadium.
