Clemson doesn’t plan on being known just for its high powered offense any more. The Tigers face paced offense has shattered a bunch of school and conference records over the years, but its the defense that is picking up most of the headlines this preseason. Vic Beasley, Grady Jarrett and Stephone Anthony’s names are popping up on a plethora of watch lists for defensive awards, and defensive coordinator Brent Venables may have the deepest and most talented group of defensive players we’ve seen at Clemson in at least a decade. Venables is quick to point out that expectations in the summer don’t amount to a thing during the season, but he knows he’s got a group that has a chance to be salty this fall.
We caught up with Venables for a few minutes at Dabo Swinney’s media golf tournament to get his thoughts on the upcoming season and break down his defensive unit and some of the battles he’s looking forward to this summer.
