The College of Charleston and USC both had players on Baseball America’s Freshman All-America team that was released Monday. The Cougars landed two players on the team; first baseman Nick Pappas and starting pitcher Bailey Ober both earned first team honors. Gamecock starting pitcher Wil Crowe picked up second team honors.
Pappas hit .269 this season with five home runs and 26 RBI. Ober was 10-3 with a 1.52 ERA last season. He struck out 85 in his 107 innings of work.
Charleston is one of two school’s with a pair of players on the all-freshman team. Miami is the other.
Crowe was 8-3 at USC last season. He had an ERA of 2.75 and struck out 59 hitters in 92 innings. Crowe also earned All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball earlier this month.
The College of Charleston finished the season ranked 17 in the final college baseball writers poll. The Cougars season ended with a Super Regional loss at Texas Tech. USC finished 23rd in the poll. The Gamecocks season ended in a home NCAA Regional loss to Maryland.
