Clemson’s pipeline to Florida for flashy athletes produced another commitment Friday afternoon in Deon Cain (6-1 190) of Tampa. Cain narrowed his list to Clemson, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and LSU and made his announcement for Dabo Swinney’s program during a ceremony at his school.
Clemson offered Cain in December of 2013. He visited earlier this year and from that point Clemson became a major factor with him.
Cain also plays quarterback and last season he passed for nearly 2000 yards and 13 touchdowns while rushing for over 700 yards and 4 scores. Those natural athletic skills for quarterback plus his physical attributes for a receiver should make him a big play maker for the Tigers according to his coach.
“He’s probably the most athletic kid I’ve ever coached,” coach Jayson Roberts said. “The number of things he can do as a receiver, run, jump, I’ve never seen a kid so comfortable with the ball in the air. He just plucks the ball out of the air. He makes everything look so effortless. He’s such a smooth athlete and one of the most competitive kids I’ve been around.”
Roberts adds that Cain, as the quarterback, is the leader of his team and those qualities will serve him well with the Tigers.
‘Those leadership qualities are going to translate well to the next level,” Roberts said. “Having that pressure that everything was going to go thru him, playing at Clemson and on that big stage is not going to affect him at all.”
Cain is Clemson’s 16th commitment for the 2015 class and the Tigers are expected to add #17 on Saturday in DE LaSamuel Davis of Bamberg-Ehrhardt.
