According to a report in the Baton Rouge Advocate, USC is going to sign 6-9” forward James Thompson Thursday. Thompson is a Baton Rouge native and attends Parkview Baptist High School. Last season Thompson averaged 18 points, 12 rebounds and five blocked shots per game.
Don Green, Thompson’s coach at Parkview Baptist, told the Advocate Thompson committed to the Gamecocks during a visit to Columbia last week.
“The distance (from Baton Rouge) was a big question,” Green said. “James and his father went over there for a visit, and they really liked it. They got some answers to questions they had, and now the distance isn’t as big a thing as it was before.
“South Carolina was probably the most consistent in terms of their recruitment of James, and I think that also played a role in his decision.”
Thompson is rated as the second best prospect in Louisiana. He had several other offers, including ones from Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, LSU and Kansas State.
