Clemson shortstop Jay Baum made one of the best defensive plays of the season Thursday night at the ACC Tournament. In the top of the sixth inning Miami’s Alex Hernandez hit a ground ball up the middle that deflected ever so slightly off Tigers starter Daniel Gossett’s foot and/or the rubber before it continued up the middle and took wicked hop off of second base. Somehow Baum was able to find the range to get a glove around the ball in shallow center field; then he spun around and fired to first in time to nail Hernandez.
Video doesn’t do it justice, but the Vine is pretty cool. Here it is, courtesy of Michael Haney.
